The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) & How It Applies to Coppell

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a civil rights law that was enacted on July 26, 1990. The ADA guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the City of Coppell will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in the City's services, programs, or activities. The City welcomes and requests input from persons with disabilities regarding accessibility. Input, questions, or requests should be directed to the City of Coppell ADA Coordinator.

ADA Coordinator

According to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a public entity that has a minimum of 50 employees is required to designate an individual to oversee their compliance with the ADA. These responsibilities for compliance only apply to the City of Coppell with regards to its services, programs, activities, and facilities.

ADA Self-Evaluation & Transition Plan

The City of Coppell completed an ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan in 2016 with Accessology, Inc. of McKinney Texas. An ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan is required of all public agencies by the Department of Justice that have more than 50 employees. The Self-Evaluation section examines how the City's policies, programs, and services are provided to the public. The Transition Plan section looks at physical barriers and identifies structural modifications necessary for providing physical access to the City's programs and services. The City of Coppell's ADA Coordinator maintains and oversees the progress of the plan.

Grievance Procedure

A Grievance Procedure is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of services, activities, programs, or benefits by the City of Coppell. The City of Coppell's "Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook" governs employment-related complaints of disability discrimination. Access the City of Coppell's Grievance Procedure.
