Tax 2020 Denton Tap Road Intersection Improvements

A design contract for the reconstruction of four intersections along Denton Tap Road was awarded to Kimley-Horn in the Summer of 2019. Those four intersections are:  Parkway,  Southwestern,  Sandy Lake,  and  Bethel School. The project consists of:

• Construction of turn lanes
• Reconstruction of sidewalks and ramps
• Traffic signal work

Bid Awarded

The project was awarded to Rebcon Inc. for a total contract amount of $2,777,148.70. Construction began in the Spring of 2021 and is anticipated to complete in the Winter of 2023.

Latest Update

Pre-construction meeting was held on 04-15-2021. The project began on 04-19-2021. This project is 99% complete as we are finishing up final inspections and closing out permits.

Maintenance Projects

Moore Road and Sandy Lake Road Panel Replacement

The project was awarded to F&F Concrete for a total contract amount of $2,296,500 (Coppell: $1,046,500 + Dallas County: $523,250) to replace panels along Sandy Lake Road (between MacArthur Boulevard and Denton Tap Road) and Moore Road that are broken or damaged.  On Sandy Lake Road, the contractor will begin going in the west-bound direction then will turn and finish in the east-bound direction.  Sandy Lake Road panel replacement began on 03-27-2023 and will complete by the end of May 2023. On Moore Road, the remaining work in the school zone will commence over the Summer break. This maintenance will extend the useful life of these roadways.

Tax 2022A Royal Lane Reconstruction 

A design contract for the reconstruction of Royal Lane was awarded to Teague, Nall, & Perkins in the Spring of 2022 in the amount of $1,403,000. The project consists of pavement reconstruction, utility upgrades, and sidewalk improvements. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2023.

Tax 2019C Woodhurst Drive

A design contract for the reconstruction of Woodhurst Drive was awarded to Westra Consultants in the Fall of 2020 in the amount of $359,500. The project consists of pavement reconstruction, utility upgrades, sidewalk improvements, and drainage improvements. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2023.

Tax 2022B Bullock Drive & Howell Drive

A design contract for the reconstruction of Bullock Drive and Howell Drive was awarded to Pacheco Koch in the Fall of 2022 in the amount of $213,777.50. The project consists of pavement reconstruction, utility upgrades, sidewalk installation, and drainage improvements. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024.  

Tax 2018A Spanish Moss Drive & Jeb Court

A design contract for the reconstruction of Spanish Moss Drive and Jeb Court was awarded to Huitt Zollars, Inc. in the Summer of 2019 in the amount of $200,295. The project consists of complete pavement reconstruction, utility upgrades, and sidewalk improvements. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024. 

Tax 2019B Southwestern Boulevard

A design contract for the reconstruction of Southwestern Blvd was awarded to Kirkman Engineering in the Fall of 2020 in the amount of $202,700. The project consists of pavement reconstruction, utility upgrades, sidewalk improvements, and drainage improvements. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025.

Park Projects Under Construction

Moore Road Elevated Boardwalk

A contract for the reconstruction of the Moore Road Boardwalk was awarded to Rebcon in November 2022. Work on the project began February 6, 2023. Included in the scope of project are a new boardwalk structure constructed along the south side of the pond and storm water improvements. Some nearby trails may be closed temporarily during the project. Construction is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2023.

The Duck Pond Park

A contract for the reconstruction of The Duck Pond Park was awarded to JB & Co., LLC in April 2023. Work on the project begins May 18, 2023. Park improvements included in the scope of the project include a new walking trail around the pond, pond edge reestablishment, retaining walls, concrete channel lining, playground surface replacement, drainage flume replacements, and landscape and irrigation improvements. For safety purposes the entirety of the park will be closed during construction. Construction is anticipated to be completed in Winter 2023.

Thweatt Park Pond/Erosion Project

A contract for the reconstruction of Thweatt Park was awarded to McMahon Contracting in February 2023. Work on the project will begin in June 2023. Included in the scope of the project are a new pond liner and repair erosion on the West side of the pond/park. For safety purposes the entirety of the park will be closed during construction. Construction is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2023.

Projects in Design

Magnolia Park Elevated Boardwalk

This project is in the design phase and continues to rest at 90% as we await the Archeological Survey results required by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). It is estimated that the survey process will be completed by late June 2023, at which time the City can proceed with finalizing a design and moving forward with a formal bid process. 

Dog Park Reconstruction Project

This project is in the design phase and currently rests at 10%.

Sidewalk Repair Process

1. The damaged sidewalk is demolished and removed
2. The ground is compacted and prepared
3. Wood forms are set and rebar is placed
4. Concrete is poured and cures/dries typically 24 to 72 hours
5. Control joints are saw-cut and sealant is applied to expansion joints, if any
